At Oticon, we think brain first. We call this approach BrainHearing™. This means we develop hearing aids that support the brain's natural way of processing sound.

Sensor driven BrainHearing technology uses your movements, the environment, and the conversation around you to recognize what you want and need to listen to, adapting seamlessly to deliver truly personalized support. Letting you stay focused on the moments that matter.
Is this just marketing? How can I determine that this actually is working and making a difference? Are there any adjustments available for this function?

Well, they did add a new hardware component (a Motion Sensor) to detect your movements, and that automatically makes it a higher classification than "marketing hype". Though how much hearing improvement you will get from detecting motion is another discussion?

This clip below is from a post in the thread → New Oticon Sirius Platform, with one new model (Oticon Intent miniRITE).

Also; Here's a "partial" clip below from the fitting software Genie2 / Help / Open help Files / type "sensor technology" in the search box and press the Enter key;

MoreSound Intelligence with Sensor technology

MoreSound Intelligence clarifies sound and suppresses noise, thus making meaningful sounds project from the background. This clear sound environment is then amplified by the MoreSound Amplifier, ensuring that the natural relationship between sounds is preserved.

You can access MoreSound Intelligence from the task pane in the Fitting step.

NOTE: MoreSound Intelligence with Sensor technology is available only for instruments on the Sirius platform and onwards.

Sound Configuration lets you define the sound settings in the hearing instrument based on your selections in the Environment Classifier. Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the screen to open Sound Configuration.

  • In Genie 2 / CLIENT Step - create a dummy client Joe Blow, and then Select Joe Blow as your client
  • In Genie 2 / WELCOME Step - Choose SIMULATE
  • In Genie 2 / SELECTION Step - Choose (Intent 1's) as your hearing aids and click miniRITE as your models (both sides) - choose any Acoustics
  • In Genie 2 / FITTING Step - Click (MoreSound Intelligence) in the left Pane and at bottom, Expand (SOUND CONFIGURATION) window
  • Click the (i)-Information buttons - for example; the (i) Sensor Technology

Have you successfully achieved a "Simulated fitting"?
  • You don't use a hearing aid programming device
  • You don't even use any hearing aids
It's pretend fitting, and you can practice using various fitting adjustments. For example; creating a separate program (P2) with Sensor technology deactivated?

No!! I'm not going to do that! ;) For this kind of analysis I rely on Mr-V @Volusiano

Here's a clip below from Mr V in another forum about a month ago; Note that DNN is not new technology for the Oticon Intent models. But is was improved with the Oticon Intent models.

The Oticon More has already reached the market 3 years ago in 2021, it has a DNN that can do denoising with up to 10 dB. The Oticon Intent, with its second generation DNN 2.0 (recently released earlier this year) also does denoising, but can now deliver up to 12 dB of denoising from the 10 dB with the More and Real. So why is this Phonak paper which is released in 4/2024 claiming that no such hearing aid has yet to reach the market???

Yes, this DNN stuff is real and not just marketing because it has existed in 3 generations of Oticon aids, from the More and Real with the DNN 1.0 to the Real with the DNN 2.0. Many people have reported better speech in noise performance in the Intent and the same between the More and Real, so it's consistent with the DNN train of progress.

How do you determine if it's actually working and makes a difference? Well, Oticon aids have been selling very well from since the OPN in 2016 until now, so it must be working because just fake marketing nonsense will not sell itself through 5 generations of aids by now (OPN, OPN S, More, Real, and Intent). The Intent has been very well received based on forum feedbacks, specifically on making a difference in speech in noise for people. But individual mileage varies so there's no guarantee that it'll work for you personally even if it works for many others. You just gotta try it out for yourself to see.

As for commenting on the Intent DNN, that's such an open question to deserve a good answer. I guess my comment would be that the Intent DNN is as real and as effective as one can judge based on the positive feedback of audiologists (see Dr Cliff's YouTube video) and actual users alike (read up on the forum users' comments yourself).
