Ive been HOH for at least 30yrs but I only acknowleded it in 2000, my hearing has degraded since.
I had a Cholosteotoma removed from my right hear on March 5, and at the moment Im totally deaf in that ear. The surgeon rebuilt my ear with titanium and skin grafts but I assume its not healed enough yet for me to hear, plus its packed very tightly inside.
My right ear that had the surgery was my good ear, I had 60% speech comprehension, My left ear I have only 25% and for the most part I cant use the phone, only a very few voices allow me to understand most of the conversation. Im hoping my right ear comes back at least as good as it was.
Its a tough surgery with a miserable long recovery but its one of those things that you have to get done if your in that position it can do alot of things to you and possibly death.
