Earmolds for Phonak

Hello,

I’m getting M-70 soon. How can I know which earmolds I need? I will go to a Phonak company far away from my hometown (10 hours by bus) to have them and I need to make sure what to ask for.

Also, is there a way to program the hearing aids without Noahlink? Its cost is quite high!

Will I be able to connect the aids with my laptop through bluetooth? Or do I need a device for that?

P.S. Do you recommend that I buy Roger on to help me hear better in noisy places? Considering that its cost is insane (for me)!!!

Don't use NOAHlink. It's an old obsolete device. See this → post. You audiologist can program them for you. Do you mean self program them without a hearing aid programming device? No, there is no way to do that.

If you are having problems with the $140/$150 USD cost of Noahlink Wireless, then forget about Roger.

Are you getting custom built molds measured to fit your ears, or Domes???

Type of Dome/Mold depends on your hearing loss. As an example (for you), an image of my hearing loss is linked in my Signature below.

Mild and moderate hearing losses tend to use "open fit" domes or custom-built molds with a larger vent size. Severe/Profound hearing losses are more closed/occluded with small vents so the sound (especially the low frequency Bass sound) doesn't leak out.

No, Noahlink Wireless is not obsolete. Noahlink Wireless 2 is slightly more-modernized. I recommend Noahlink Wireless for a cheaper price.

It depends on your hearing aid model. Some models can use a wired Hi Pro or mini-Pro with cables and adapters. Noahlink Wireless (1) is the best choice when that option is available. The wired programming devices are similar in pricing, and much more difficult to use.

Your Audiologist chooses the correct vent size based on your hearing loss. Your Audiologist has a tool for measuring the wire length.

The audiologist in Egypt doesn't program the aids while the hearing aid companies do. They will not program them for me because I'm not buying the aids from them!!

It is not efficient to constantly repost your Audiogram. I recommend you link your Audiogram image in your Signature;

1. Click your Login-Avatar (upper-right of your display)
2. Click Signature
3. Type "Link to my Audiogram" or similar into your Signature Line

I'm confused by this???

Well, what I know that we go to the audiologist? (I'm not sure whether this is the correct description for them in English) to have the audiogram done. Then, they send us to a hearing aid company where we get the hearing aids, earmold, tubes etc. The specialists in the hearing aid companies (who actually studied telecommunication and only got to know about hearing aids and hearing loss when they got this job) program the hearing aids. I'm traveling to Cairo to Phonak office there to have the earmold because I did a custom earmold a few years ago in my hometown but it never settled well in my ear. They lacked professionalty and experience, unfortunately!

It's okay. No need to be sorry. It's not your fault. It's a typical fault in some forums that use Signature lines.

Try clicking the link in my Signature line to see how it works after you setup a link to an image. The image can be stored externally in image storing sites such as IMGUR, or it can be stored here in this (Hearing Aid Talk forum) because if you post an image once in this forum then it has an address and you can obtain that address/URL by Right/Mouse/Clicking the image and choose "Copy image address".

Oh, okay. In your country it seems that the medical/health-care duties are separate from retail sales of hearing aids. In other countries the retail sales have a soundproof booth and are capable of both (measuring your fitting loss, and selling/programming the hearing aids). I get it now.

Okay, you are getting BTE (not RIC) style hearing aids/HAs. That's helpful. With BTE hearing aids the speaker (actually it's a balanced armature) is inside the hearing aid! With the other RIC style hearing aids the balanced armature (of different power levels) is inside your ear. Do you know what style tubes ( → slim tubes or Fat tubes) will be used to connect the (BTE HAs/internal speakers) to the custom molds. Also do you know if you will be getting two custom molds (your left and right loss is so different)?

No, I have no idea yet! Hopefully the "audiologist" will help me with that.

I think I will go with this option and have two custom molds in both ears.

Just a reminder, I think you already know that you can practice using Phonak Target now, without connecting any hearing aids;

Tip: Phonak Target has a Pulldown Selector to the right of “New Session”. You can pull it down and select “New Training Session”. These simulations might help you to get a feel for how the software works, or you can test some questions you may have about the software;

Some necessary conditions:
1. Have the person programming your hearing aid connect his/her computer to the Internet while programming your hearing aid, so that the "Remote Support" function of your hearing aid is automatically switched on when the programming/saving of data is completed.
2. Install the myPhonak APP on your mobile phone, pair your hearing aid with myPhonak and connect it.
3. Ask the person who programmed your hearing aids to open the last programming session of your hearing aids in Phonak Target, connect your hearing aids to Phonak Target, and tap "Save&Close" to save the data again.
4. Ask the person who programmed your hearing aids to export all programming sessions for your hearing aids from Phonak Target（do not export anonymously）, which will result in an "export" file.
5. Copy this file to your computer and import it into Phonak Target.

I'm not sure if the third point has to be done, but if it's not done, sometimes Phonak Target says that there is no paired to phone when starting Remote Supprt.

Any session that meets these conditions is fine:
Programming is done using the programmer, and at the end of programming/preserving data, the Phonak Target says "Remote Support is successfully enabled".
Paired yo phone is displayed on the right side of the clients&sessions screen.
