DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2)

Hi @pvc and everyone,

I have bought Connexx Air and installed the fitting software. But i couldnt adjust anything because the connection issue as below picture. I have restarted my laptop, Connexx Air and hearing aids several times, but the issue has not been solved yet. The Connexx Air i bought new 100%. Anyone know the issue and could help ? Sometime i could connect a bit 30s or 1 mins and it was interrupted again and again.

Or with this Connexx Air do i need to connect it in the super quiet room ?

Thank you very much

After trying many ways, It seems because of the Connexx 9.12 version. I uninstall and reinstall with 9.6 version and it works now. I still dont know why but I am happy now. Thank you very much

For reference this link to → ConnexxAir User Manual

ConnexxAir works as a Loop so it is not to be used like Bluetooth wireless technology which has a long range. You need to stay inside the neckloop.

The user manual says; In order to function correctly, your patient must wear the hearing instruments and ConnexxAir with the neckloop around the neck. The neckloop is also the antenna.
  • Unplug one neckloop plug and place the neckloop loosely around the patient's neck
  • Insert both neckloop plugs all the way
But try this instead; Place the ConnexxAir with both neckloop plugs inserted all the way on your desk. Then Off/On cycle your hearing aids and place them inside the neckloop. That should give you a secure connection. Later you can try again with hearing aids in your ears and ConnexxAir around your neck.

I uninstall and reinstall with 9.6 version and it works now.
Perhaps you inadvertently created a better wireless connection between your (hearing aids and the ConnexxAir antenna) at the same time you were switching software? Though, I could be wrong.

My computer is older, it doesn't have USB-C connectors for Noahlink wireless.
Are there suitable USB-C to USB-A adapters?
Some, as an example, please.

Or a cable that has a USB type that goes into the NW at one end and a USB-A at the other end?

  • I think you mean Noahlink Wireless 2 because Noahlink Wireless does have a USB-A connection.
  • You can search aliexpress.us, for "USB-C to USB-A adapters", and maybe choose Shipping from = United States.
  • There are many adapters. But here's the thing. I don't know if these backwards-compatible adapters will work for Noahlink Wireless 2?
  • Perhaps you can be the first to test whether an adapter will work?

Thanks for the response, and certainly for the software. I installed it but haven't tried it yet. I am preparing by reading the documentation from the DIY school.

I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have an Oticon OWN 1 ITC.
I haven't bought the NW yet, but I don't even know if I will find and buy the NW or the NW2 here. Certainly, I would prefer the newer NW2 to serve for some future requirements, rather than getting an older model because of the USB type. Maybe I will buy from AliExpress.
But I wouldn't want to find out after purchase that I have a connection problem, that is, that the USB-C to USB-A adapter doesn't fit.
What to do then?
It would be good if someone who has already tried it would say if it worked. Does it work?
I also asked about the cable. I don't know which USB port goes to NW, so maybe a cable with one USB-"x" and the other USB-A is a better solution than an adapter?

I have an Oticon OWN 1 ITC.
Careful with choosing a hearing aid programming device for Oticon Own!! Some are built without the 2.4 GHz wireless radio/hardware component. Maybe this is a size constraint, or maybe to save money? Read a DIY School Hearing Legacy Aids (v2.2) PDF file named (Choose Hardware-Programming Device for Oticon) which will show you where to find the list of hearing aid programming devices.

But I wouldn't want to find out after purchase that I have a connection problem, that is, that the USB-C to USB-A adapter doesn't fit.

I can't test this for you. I still have the old Noahlink Wireless and I don't have the USB-C to USB-A adapter.
It will fit. USB connections are standard. The question is will you lose any functionality? I dunno?
I don't know which USB port goes to NW
Any port/no port! USB connections are Plug-N-Play.

Yes, I know there are both options OWN; with and without bluetoot.
I have an OVN 1 ITC with 2.4 z and it needs NW.

I can't test this for you. I still have the old Noahlink Wireless and I don't have the USB-C to USB-A adapter.

I understand.
But I also ask other members, if anyone has concrete experience. I guess someone else uses a PC with USB-A with NW 2

Any port/no port! USB connections are Plug-N-Play.

You may not have understood me.
I don't know if the NW 2 USB cable is fixed or detachable. If it is fixed, then the only option is an adapter for which we do not know if it would reduce functionality?! If it's detachable, one end (for PC) is uSB-C, but what type of USB goes into NW 2? Then, apart from the adapter, you could try another cable: on one side a USB like the one that goes into NW 2, and on the other side USB-A. Maybe it's better that way, so there would be a loss in functionality?!

The translation is from Google, but I hope it's understandable:)

Thank you

According to the picture, there is a separate cable and the connector looks (but I'm not sure) that USB-C is also on the NW 2 side, i.e. at both ends of the cable.
So it could be both; or a USB-C to USB-A cable or such adapter.

What I don't know is whether the transition from 24-pin to only 4-pin (USB-A 2) or 9-pin (USB-A 3) would disable some communication between the hearing aid and the software in the PC.
Given that you say it's with NW (not NW 2) USB-A might not be a problem with NW 2 either?

Maybe someone will read and clarify?

What is DIY School Hearing Aids? It’s simply a collection of PDF files residing in cloud storage. Click one of the Access Portal to have a quick look at the PDF files inside DIY School Hearing Aids. The PDF files provide help with many self programming tasks, including the following two prerequisites.

  1. Software Prerequisite: Download the fitting software. Read about software download instructions in the first PDF file named (01 Free Hearing Aid Fitting Software). The links within that PDF file may take you to directly a download site or, provide community share instructions for how to obtain hidden software.
  2. Hardware Prerequisite: In addition to obtaining free fitting software, you will also need to use a Hearing Aid Programming Device/hardware. For most (but not all) recently sold hearing aids, the device you will need is Noahlink Wireless. Some think that Remote Fitting can be used take the place of this hardware prerequisite. It cannot! Sorry, it requires a professional account! This non-trivial task will require your due diligence!
That’s it, Ta-da!!

Would you be so kind and to let me know where I can find the Philips HearSuite 2024.1?

Hi
Where in Genie 2 is Prescriptive Formulae selection made: NAL-NL1, NAL-NL2, DSL, VAC+, etc.?
Yes, for example for P1 I choose one, for P2 another, etc.
And so I practically try them out and compare them..
