Thought I'd try DIY programming. Just need Starkey inspire x and pro fit software. First time using HAs. I am considering purchasing Starkey Genesis AI 16 or Livio AI 2400 RIC hearing Aids to play with, Which one? Also why do most people buy BTE over in the ear?
I have Starkey Evolve 1000 that I'm returning for multiple reasons

Thanks to all.

Most ppl buy RIC/RITE (receiver in canal/receiver in the ear) and not BTE (behind the ear). BTEs are power hearing aids for severe or profound hearing loss. With RIC/RITE the speaker is in your ear. With BTEs the speaker is in the hearing aid. Here's a link to → pictures of different models.

That's hard to say. They are very different; (Genesis AI is a newer year 2023 model, and Livio AI is a year 2020 model). Please read a DIY School Legacy Hearing Aids (v2.2) PDF File named (Choose Hardware-Programming Device for Starkey).

The purpose of this PDF file is to specify which hearing aid programming device you should use to program the hearing aids. But for your purposes, it also shows the release date of the models you are considering. It also has clickable links to some additional Starkey documentation.

Also; the DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) access portals are at your finger tips via 24/7 cloud storage access.
  • Start here → DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) to find the access portals
  • You can easily find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking any PVC Avatar (click twice - counting the 2nd popup Avatar)
  • When logged in, you can find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking a Link in my Signature
  • And finally, you can perform a simple Internet search for "DIY School Hearing Aids"

Thank you for you're quick response. More importantly, Thank you for your interest in the forum and all .the other people that you've helped. I've read through most all of the DIY School PDFs.and searched for the Starkey software. I believe my choice of AIDS comes down to battery life. The genesis aid was made in 2023 and the livio is unknown so the rechargable
battery in the livio may be closer to it's end of life.

Oh? Maybe I got hung up on providing correct answers, and forgot to consider software requirements first :p

Yep; That's the problem with rechargeable HAs (with built-in non-easily-replaceable) batteries . They are meant to be disposable, kinda link cellphones.

Not really. Hardware was emphasized so it was my error. I probably should have done separate posts. I did make a mistake back in 1978,or was it '79:)
