i have 50 % loss right ear 25% loss left ear, i need new BTE aids, i am cosidering the Signia Run SP, that should be sufficient gain for my loss, they look to be an upgrade over my old Siemens Lotus 23P aid, the question i have is since i don't have an audiogram, i am going give self programming a shot, what are the best choices of software to get into the Run SP, it looks like Conexx to be one choice. any comments on my choice on the Run SP
my loss is considered severe to profound

It's too old, too Lecacy. Maybe you can find a BTE that is not so ancient?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

since i don't have an audiogram
Typically, your Audiogram describes your hearing loss, and you can use the Audiogram to program a set of hearing aids to fit the hearing loss using the loss for each frequency (and each ear) as measured in your Audiogram.

If you don't have an Audiogram that describes your hearing loss, then what hearing loss are you going to use for self programming? You could also use inSitu to define your hearing loss by listening for beeps (in your hearing aids) and then use that to define your hearing loss. However, inSitu measurement is only available in modern hearing aid fitting software, and not available in Legacy hearing aid fitting software.

Signia Connexx6 for Older/Legacy hearing aids

Power hearing aids (and especially SP/Super Power hearing aids) have warnings such as the warnings below;
  • Hearing instruments should be used only as directed and adjusted by your Hearing Care Professional. Misuse can result in sudden and permanent hearing loss.
  • Never allow others to wear your hearing instrument as incorrect/wrongful usage could cause permanent damage to their hearing.

But if you are going to try to program SP BTEs without knowing your (Hearing Loss/Audiogram) then that is a dangerous thing to do!

if its a bad thing to try to program, what if leave the aid as it comes and use the 4 presets. i will be going for a hearing test next week

Good;
  • Get a copy of your Audiogram
  • Your audiogram defines your hearing loss
  • Program the hearing aids to FIT YOUR HEARING LOSS!!
The DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) access portals are at your finger tips via 24/7 cloud storage access.
  • Start here → DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2) to find the access portals
  • You can easily find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking any PVC Avatar (click twice - counting the 2nd popup Avatar)
  • When logged in, you can find the Access Portals again/anytime, by clicking a Link in my Signature
  • And finally, you can perform a simple Internet search for "DIY School Hearing Aids"

For reference here's a copy of my audiogram which you can also see by clicking the link in my Signature below each forum post.
Also (two other images) for reference about how to visualize how (Bad or how Good) your hearing loss is.

what if leave the aid as it comes
It may (will likely) come as programmed to the previous owner's hearing loss (which could be a (SEVERE or PROFOUND LOSS) and therefore dangerous for others to wear. Stop guessing! How is your reading ability? Read some PDFs in DIY School Hearing Aids (v2.2).

See the posted above warnings (in RED) for power BTE hearing aids.

question about the siemens Run SP, prices are about 150, some say 2022 models and some say 2024 models
any preferences

Note the shared areas in the (Audiogram-like images) for the Run P and Run SP. This is the hearing loss section of your Audiogram these BTEs (with their presets, or mobile fitting App, <- I am guessing) are designed to fit.

Sorry, I do not understand how to fit these Legacy hearing aids. There are too old to mess with. But you can try.
I no longer believe that the fitting software (Signia Connexx6 for Older/Legacy hearing aids) will work for Run.

If the hearing aid models are (2022 models and 2024 models) then how could they be in a catalog of 2017 (or earlier) models.
Also an Internet search brings up reviews from 2015 indicating these are Legacy and about a decade old.
