Below is a clip from a VA-Veteran's Administration → Oticon order form. It's a bit old, and for previous generation hearing aids. But I think it's relevant for this discussion about (short or long) molds. On this older order form, there is no option for ordering (short or long) molds!
So I am guessing that (over time) Oticon has figured out that human anatomy differences require some ppl with deep ear canals to wear "long" molds and others to wear "short" molds. Otherwise, a person with short ear canals might have the wire too far outside his/her ear and not flat against the head as it should fit for looks and comfort. Though, I could be wrong as I am just guessing. Also, I betcha if we find a new Oticon order form it will have an option to order (short or long) molds.
Here's a clip below from that linked PDF file. But only to show some of the different styles. It does not show (short or long) molds.
