My father had hearing aids, we think probably from specsavers and according to my sister was only seen to use them twice.
My fathers hearing aids following his death were presented to my father in law.
My father in law had been fitted with some hearing aids a year before but they were returned after a week and not replaced.
The reason given by father in law - buzzing sound. Underlying reasons known before trying: 1. Appearance - he did not want to appear to be wearing hearing aids. 2. Cost - the old often think they have little time left and don't wish to be a burden or burden us with the expense of hearing aids.
My father in law tried them and found only one to be of benefit. No complaint about buzzing just that one side offered no benefit.
Unfortunately I have learnt from an audiologist that these Insignia Contrast S+ are locked.
I appear to suffer from hyperacusis which developed into misophonia during the COVID pandemic. Brought on most likely from living in a city centre location. My triggers being UK ambulance sirens, leaf blowers and lawn mowers. Loud TVs affect me to the point of loss of balance and the need for escape. I left my job and moved abroad were I live some years with my father in law.
While searching for a way to unlock these hearing aids I noticed something the local audiologist and probably my father had not noticed. The useless hearing aid while externally clean looked a bit orange inside the tube when looking from the behind the ear piece. Sure enough it was blocked with a small wax plug. I don't have a cleaning kit and making a very fine screw driver by bashing the end of a small resistors copper wire resulted only in pushing the blockage further in. With the tube disconnected from the hearing aid. I blew air from the device end with the aid of a 2mL syringe. Care must be taken to avoid tube damage with the needle. The blockage gone and using the syringe and some warm water to clean the tube followed by blowing just air though it. All that was left was to remove the moisture so I have left the tube in a clean jar with some rice on a warm surface.
Hopefully now both will work even if we cannot re-program them.
